Blue Label Packaging: Better Data, Better Decisions · Interview with Gareth Boyd
At Blue Label Packaging, technology, data, and strong partnerships play an important role in supporting continuous improvement. From its beginnings in craft beer labels, the company has expanded into a broader label business serving breweries, wineries, spirits, specialty foods, and brands across the United States.
Gareth Boyd, Director of Finance at Blue Label Packaging, shared with INKISH TV how the company uses CERM as the backbone of its operations, connecting production, administration, customer information, and reporting while giving the team greater visibility into what is happening throughout the business.

Connecting Data Across the Business
For Blue Label Packaging, CERM has evolved into much more than a system for processing orders. Today, information from across the operation flows through the MIS, providing the company with a central source of business and production data.
Live shop-floor information, material consumption, employee clockings, sales figures, production data, and customer information can be combined with Power BI reporting, giving the management team an almost immediate view of business performance.
Different departments can then use that information according to their own needs, from marketing and sales to production, operations, and finance.
Using Data to Continuously Improve
Better visibility also helps Blue Label Packaging measure the impact of changes much faster. Instead of implementing a new process and waiting months to understand the result, the company can use its data to identify the impact much sooner.
Blue Label Packaging uses CERM data for:
Production visibility — understanding what is happening across the shop floor.
Material consumption — monitoring how materials are being used throughout production.
Sales and customer reporting — analyzing commercial and customer information.
Financial reporting — connecting operational information with financial performance.
Process improvement — measuring the impact of operational changes.
Power BI reporting — creating reports tailored to different departments and business needs.
Management insights — providing faster access to the information needed for decision-making.
This allows the company to continuously evaluate its processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and performance.
Building Technology Around Strong Partnerships
For Blue Label Packaging, technology is only one part of the equation. Strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and technology partners are equally important.
Gareth highlights CERM's willingness to listen to Blue Label's requirements, connect different technologies, and work together on solutions when a business need does not fit into a standard process.
Over time, CERM has become an essential part of Blue Label Packaging's technology ecosystem, connecting its HP digital printing and ABG finishing equipment with the wider business operation.
By combining technology, live data, and strong partnerships, Blue Label Packaging continues to improve its processes, make better-informed decisions, and build a stronger foundation for future growth.
